Trolleys may be jolly, say Minneapolis officials
Minneapolis wants to bring back trolleys.
Comments:
It's interesting that they aren't proposing a streetcar to address a mobility problem in a particular corridor, they don't even know where they want it to go. They just want a streetcar for the sake of having a streetcar. They presumably think it will be a monument to their forward thinking.
If this really were about improving mobility, obviously a bus could do anything a streetcar could at a fraction of the cost. But then, how much fun is a bus?

The study costing 300K will determine the mobility issues as stated in the article. The study will also determine where the line will go so it's not for the sake of having a streetcar.
Studies have shown that electric lightrail lines always carry more passengers than buses. In addition, the property values and investment capital flows along the line so it's a no brainer.
