$615,000 ,median priced home in Silicon Valley
Comments:
The price of homes in Silicon Valley is the result of massive highway and uncontrolled road construction. As a result, two thirds of the valley is occupied by highway, streets and parking making the available land very expensive.
If they only used "Smarth Growth" planning, there would be plenty of affordable condo's and cooperatives. Add in Lightrail or subways and the Valley would have become a major city rivaling New York and London.
An opportunity lost due to road construction.

Lets check the record. VTA now spends 80% of transit funds on transit that provides 1.1% of passanger miles. Roads get 15% of funds. VTA 2020 Plan reports that 90,000 auto trips a day will not be possible to be made because of traffic congestion. MTC hopes to get to 6% transit use by 2030. Busses provide 5 times more trips than rail and so rail will be 1%.
The San Jose UGB results in builders paying 1 million an acre for land where next door it is $50,000 an acre but can not be developed. How about Houston. Any more suggestions.
