Great article in the North Carolina Charlotte Observer! It would be great to see more articles like this across the US!

Comments:
So someone who disagrees with "free market capitalism" is automatically a "socialist" or "communist"?
Pulleze!
For the record, the American road system is probably the biggest example of "social engineering" in history, and an example of "lemon socialism" at that (for starters, by not accounting for the myriad of costs, internal, "external", and otherwise). At least the "toll roaders" get part of what needs to be done right, even if they don't want to admit the extent of negative environmental and economic externalities inherent in the U.S.'s extreme overdependence on the automobile--to the exclusion of almost every other consideration it seems sometimes.
The new rallying cry should be "Internalize the Externalities!!" Hardly a socialist or communist slogan, methinks.
Morons!

Oh, yeah.
David Brooks' recent article on exurbia is almost as moronic as many of Cox's and O'Toole's rants on this blog.

To answer your question: Evidently.
I trust the readers can decide who is a "moron".
Keep posting "anon", and I doubt it will be "Cox and/or O'Toole".

"Evidently" anyone who believes religiously in "free market" capitalism," and is not concerned about excessive buildup of power is a "facist" or a "facist-symp" at the least, by generally accepted definition of this "f-word." See

Those who agree with me are in favor of "democracy" not "socialism" or "communism." If you can't discern the very unsubtle differences between democracy and these ideologies, that's your problem, not mine.

From the article:
>>>>>As the bloggers at The Charlotte Capitalist correctly noted, sprawl means freedom to live where and how you want. You can choose urban living in Charlotte, >>>>>If that appeals to you. You can also live on half an acre with a private back yard, if you prefer. And in large part because those choices exist, all of the opportunities are amazingly affordable, especially in relation to places like Portland. If you are still convinced that sprawl is bad (or even exists) choose to buy a townhome downtown. Just don't force someone else to do the same if they don't want.<<<<<
Don't force me to to pay for new highway construction that comes out of MY tax dollars. Why must I my state give tax relief for your subdivisions and pay for water and electrical lines? Don't forget that we will now have to pay for more fire and police protection while providing new bus service to your distance community in the middle of nowhere. Bottom line. Your freedom to live in the burbs comes at the expense of my tax dollars!
