Transport Minister Endorses Road Pricing

Rather than raise fuel taxes, Britain's Minister of Transport has proposed an electronic tolling system that would vary by time, distance, and location. Implementing this system, he said, would be "a massive and complex task," but it would reduce congestion and save people $20 billion per year.

>>>Today's announcement also warned motorists that they might pay up to 134p per mile in a nationwide road user charging scheme that could be introduced within 10-15 years.<<<<<

It seems incredible that the American Dream Coalition supports the policy of making road transportation expensive. Instead of gas taxes, they think these costly tolls will solve grid lock. It won't.

Motor car transport is expensive enough without putting tolls with the hope this will relieve traffic congestion. That's what this plan is all about. Making driving so expensive, only the very well off will be able to drive.

And where is all the money from these tolls going to go? That's what I'd like to know.
