Vancouver fastest-growing city in Portland area

Vancouver, Washington, remains the fastest-growing city in the Portland area. In fact, it is the fastest growing city in the entire Northwest. Could it possibly be because people who have jobs in the Portland area are escaping Portland's land-use planning laws and high housing prices? The article says "younger families are attracted by cheaper housing prices in Vancouver, compared with the Portland area."

Comments:
Vancouver like many cities in north America are experiencing a rebirth because housing prices in nice areas like Portland have gone through the roof. One of the reasons people are excaping Porland is due the incredible amount of traffic caused by urban sprawl.

Vancouver is fortunate in that it's investment in public transportation is finally paying off. The SkyTrain has been a tremendous success and it's local and surburban bus service provides good access for those seeking alternative transportation. The West coast Express is a premium commuter rail service linking Mission, Port Haney, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody with downtown Vancouver.

Under these circumstances, it makes perfectly good sense why people would move to Vancouver.

Vancouver remains one of the fastest-growing cities due to the low cost housing and excellent transportation system. The "SkyTrain" is really paying off dividends and it's a classic case of lightrail at it's best. Their extensive urban and surburban bus system rivals those of major cities like New York or Los Angeles.

The West Coast Express is a premium commuter rail service linking Mission, Port Haney, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody with downtown Vancouver.

In summery, Vancouver has become one of those cities that is in the process of a "rebirth" in large part to their revaitizing their core urban center with mass transit.
